For our class, we were tasked to design a product or service that goes beyond functional design and focuses also on bringing feelings of delight to users.
Why make this product?
From my personal experience, and gathered research I found many productivity and social media habit tracker apps to become more another chore than a rewarding experience. There is no shortage of existing services to help with screen time including the native features inside of apple and android OS.
So we decided to find alternative approaches using feelings of "delight"
We chose to use the prevalent issue of excessive device usage as the inspiration to answer the question:
Interview findings
Conducting interviews and surveys, we found that young adults 18 - 24
Average time spent on social media per day: 2 hours and 19 minutes
Studies have shown that symptoms of social media addiction can be similar to those of addictions to substances, such as withdrawal, relapse, and mood modification
Animations
I kept the animations simple, low fps, and cartoon-ish to fit the aesthetics of the rough, (primitive even), illustrations.
Once a player is detected to be approaching their objective screen time, they are sent the pre-written messages
