Overview

For my class called "Discursive Design" we were first asked to create two artifacts that stimulate conversation around the topic of water. Water is possibly the broadest category to work with, so we used the game called "the Thing from the Future" to stimulate ideation.


World Building


Imagining a world where perhaps water isn't just scarce, but is so rare that the collection of the resource could come at the expense of human lives themselves by using the plasma in the blood to create water. A government who mandates blood draws, and everybody involved trying to get as much as they can. Water is now the currency.

Inspiration


Inspired by the colors of russian constructivism and soviet propaganda, I emulated the bold, aggressive compositions and colors with the bold outlines and oppressive tones to inform my designs. By using my own font and modern illustration softwares and vector graphics, I could also bring this tone of totalitarianism to the future context where technology is advanced but clearly, ethics has not.


The game rules were based off a game I enjoy playing called coup. It is also a role based strategy game with hidden roles and similar actions, but without an emphasis on currency as much as the player abilities themselves.
